Casual Poet Culture

while doing some blog browsing, on my good friend Anton's page, i came across a wonderful blog that got my smiling! it' called Casual Poet, which is a 'laidback little coffee shop + store in Singapore.' they're such a great blog that shares simple and relaxing inspirations with a sweet Japanese twist.

here's some of their picture post eye candy that got me hooked.

SANAA + Hello Sandwich

all thanks to fellow Japan lover, Ebony! (Hello Sandwich), for posting a great book that i immediately ordered right after reading her blog!

ほんとうありがとうエボニーさん!!

the master-minds behind the SANAA design project are Kazuyo Sejima & Ryue Nishizawa.  they create amazingly simple and beautiful architectural environments.  below are some visions they created.

another great art piece / architecture installation in Japan, Kanazawa city, at the 21st century contemporary art museum.  created by Argentinean artist Leandro Erlich.

i always wanted to go here!  its such an unnatural experience that looks so dreamy

New Bag + Old Mind

i bought this really nice bag yesterday. surprisingly it was on sale for only 13$ at the Gap! i'm happy with this find. i'm also wearing that tanktop i ordered from UO, it came in yesterday with the white plimsolls.

so this morning, i got off the phone with my Grandma Rachel (she's not really my grandma, just a "respect" grandpa, old family friend) with this really horrible sinking feeling that really shook me up...

i had written her a letter the previous week, so she called us this morning (leaving a message) saying she recieved it and enjoyed it, and updating us on whats going in her life (shes 95 years old now! but still very healthy and independent. but her old sister just passed away before making it to 100, and her 3 other siblings are now in caring homes...so grandma Rachel lives alone in their big house...its very sad)...

so after listening to the message, i immediately called her.
but it was the most saddening conversations i have ever had.....she had NO idea who i was! even though she just called 4 hours ago and left very specific details in the message about me and my family and things i wrote in the letter. i tried reiterating everything for her to jog her memory, but i guess her age really is catching up with her... (but i'm just very thankful she's making it to such a great age and healthy and can still live on her own...but her mind is definately going)

this brakes my heart.

Jap Mag quality

(bike riding picture from the magazine, Lingkaran)

i really enjoy this picture. it makes me feel like i'm riding a bike too. this is probably the closest feeling i have ever felt to flying. its so nice to ride your bike around the neighborhood, but it's a bit difficult in my new neighborhood because i live on a hill. so going uphill is definatley a challenge, but once you fly down its all good!

(Japanese home interior pictures from magazine, Ku:nel)

i found these pictures from another great blog called Ii-ne-kore. it hosts inspirational Japanese design, words, and food. check it out!

i love these two magazines (Lingkaran & Ku:nel). they always have absolutley beautiful photographs that really calm me and make me smile. subjects such as crafts, food, children, home interior, nature, etc. their images always have this specific quality to them, as if they're all washed out by sunlight. it's all very asian-folk lifestlye.

i'm thinking about putting in a subscription order for Lingkaran magazine at our local japanese super-store. i wonder how much it's going to cost ordering it from japan every month. the last japanese magazine subscription i had was about 10$ a month for each issue...is that worth it?

Earth Day

i picked up my Fjällräven Kånken bag from the post office today! it came in this exciting bright green package which added to the anticipation. this is my first time recieving mail in bright green...i like it! it came packaged with information packets and a great sticker i want to put on my car :-)

i'm so excited to use it for the first time this summer session and next semester!

thats a picture of a plant i potted for my sister in that pretty ceramic egg, and a cute glassed bird cage i picked out for her to put on her wall. also some lavender that i planted yesterday.

hope everyone had a good earth day!

Fanciful Adaptations

"The Snouters: Form and Life of the Rhinogrades" by Harald Stumpke (and illustrations by Gerolf Steiner) is a fictional book that explains the study of many different amazing creatures that have adapted in ways of their nose!

i stumbled across this as i was doing my biology homework! this seems like a very interesting book that i would like to own. there's something that's very magically wierd and cute about these animals.

a beautiful quote that my best friend, Malisa, texted me today:

"I'm lounging on the back porch over looking our great view of the earth. Eating spring rolls and drinking a generous glass of red wine. Learning to be my best friend all over again for the first time with new eyes."

My friend

creating this blog was such a fresh step for me. basically because i came on here knowing no one that i'm so used to. like moving to a new town. an exciting start to share and befriend people from around the world.

well, one of my best friends that i cherish so much, Shaina, has joined the blogging community and i am more than excited to welcome her! we share the best conversations and connect on a very similar wave length. i love her so much, so i thought i'd share her with you all :-)

(picture below): she came back home for the summer (2008), and on her last day before she went back to the mainland for school, we went to the beach at around 4am and had the most pleasant company with eachother, waiting for the sun to rise.
i captured this beautiful vision of her with that sunrise.

A little indulgence

I finally got my tax returns back so i thought i would treat myself to this easy outfit from UO.

but i cant get these fred perry  slip-ons because they dont have my size. its a bit pricey too anyway

so i'll settle on these cheap white plimsolls. i have them in blue already, but it got beat up so fast because i wear them a lot. so comfortable!

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

the semester is finally winding down, but now i have to sign up for summer session. i really dont want to.

i want to find a new job. i'm thinking about a bookstore so i can wear whatever i want and be comfortable. my job now requires me to wear a tie!

today is one of the most quietest days that i've seen in a while.
grey sky with the smallest breeze. it's not necessarily bad,
it just feels like it's a secret no one's letting me in on.
