little warrior

i came across this photo on a wonderful tumblr called Little Wing, filled with great images from around the world that show beauty and perspective.  yet... i could not stop staring at this photo, as a million things ran through my heart and head.

such powerful imagery to remind us that wherever you are in the world.  whomever you are.  struggle and strife can take on many forms.  pain and sadness happens to every single person, some on many many different levels that most of us could never imagine in a thousand years that it could happen to us.

myself, like many, get so caught up in our cloud of privileges:  clean water, shopping malls, backyards, goose feather pillows, your neighborhood pharmacy... and yet, this heartbreaking image of a boy from Pul-i-Khumri, Afghanistan just stopped time for me.  it's so crazy to think that in so many countries around the world, some children are raised with a gun in their hand for survival.

i have no idea who he is and i have no idea the hell he is going through and the terror he has seen, but this is a strong reminder for US to open our minds and hearts more to what's going on outside of our own 'world.'  count your blessings, not your problems.  be kind and open your heart because everyone is going through their own battles in life.

i take my hat off to you, little warrior. ♡

what an absolutely touching photograph. and thanks for the reminder of what is real-- I like to think of myself as a grounded person, but it is far too easy to get caught up with ridiculous and trivial things...so sometimes being reminded is important :) x
